Your First Taxi - Dealer or No Dealer?

If the answer to that question is, "yes," then it is important to consider whether to buy from a dealer, or whether to go with a private sale. Your legal protections are diminished for a < a href="http://www.voyagermpv.co.uk">taxi for sale in a private sale; however you may also find that a private sale saves you a lot of money. A dealer isn't always able to verify everything in a taxi's past with regard to body damage, accidents, or other problems.

Whoever you buy it from, you should be made aware of everything they know about it before you buy it. Dealers may not know everything about the taxi's history, such as collisions, mechanical problems, or body repairs; and if the seller simply forgets something, it is usually too late once you've bought it, to do anything about it.

This is why it's important to get the taxi's history, including service records and parts bills. You should steer clear if the seller doesn't have these, or says you can't see them. It could be an indication that unacceptable parts have been used instead of the recommended ones for that model. Make sure that the work has been done by a qualified mechanic or dealer. If it has, and the records presented are legitimate and complete, you can be reasonably sure the taxi was properly maintained and otherwise taken care of. Before you buy, get a feel for whether this person is selling honestly and can be trusted.

Here are some questions you may want to ask the seller:

1) When did you purchase the taxi?
2) How many people have used the taxi aside from you?
3) Has the mileage been adjusted or tampered with in any way?
4) Why did you decide to get rid of this cab?
5) Do you have service or repair records for this vehicle?

There are plenty of other questions you can and should ask but these are the important ones. Another important question is to find out if the taxi has any money owed on it, you dont want to find out somebody has a debt on the taxi after purchasing it.

< a href="http://www.voyagermpv.co.uk">Taxis for sale from dealers as opposed to an individual, you will have more rights. An act known as the "Sale of Goods Act" will apply here. Taking into account the age of the taxi you wish to purchase and its price, the taxi should not have any major faults. The only faults are ones that you have asked the seller about and were explained to you completely.

If you plan to use it for its intended purpose, then it should be up to the task. Don't forget that you should also have someone knowledgeable verify that the seller's claims are accurate, and you can also get reports using the vehicle identification number, or VIN, that will give a history of the taxi's prior accidents and other major events.

One final consideration is to be sure that the seller's name matches what is on the paperwork. Enjoy your new taxi purchase, and be certain to retain all service records in case you sell it again someday.
