SWOT Analysis of the New Honda Fuel Cell Vehicle

Honda is changing the vehicle market as we know it, by making a vehicle that emits water vapor. Honda's FCX Clarity fuel cell car is the new breed for green cars. This car has some similarities to hybrid, but nothing compares to its new fuel source hydrogen. Besides hydrogen it runs with an electric motor that generates electricity to the fuel stack and a lithium ion battery. The lithium ion battery serves as a supplemental power source. The lithium ion battery charges up while braking and decelerating. Some questions might arise when thinking about this new fuel cell vehicle, like what makes this car better than the other hybrid cars? What are the Honda FCX Clarity strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats?
One of the biggest strengths about this new fuel cell vehicle is that it emits water vapor and is designated as a Zero emission vehicle (ZEV). The environmental protection agency (EPA) has given this vehicle the lowest possible emission rating. It also can be driven up to 280 miles before being refueled with hydrogen. FCX Clarity is achieves an energy efficiency of 55% which is twice the energy efficiency of the hybrid vehicles and three times the efficiency of regular gas vehicles. Since FCX Clarity is more energy efficient it has been one of the first fuel cell vehicles to receive certification from the EPA and the California Air Resources Board. Unlike the hybrids the FCX Clarity doesn't need to be plugged in to be charged up and there is no need for regular gas.
Honda has many opportunities with this new fuel cell vehicle. First off Honda is designing a home refueling station. No more worrying about going out and getting refueled at the pump. Home refueling stations will elevate the stress at the pump. Also, Honda could make this fuel cell vehicle a household name and market this vehicle all over the globe. Honda just needs to get out there to show off their new vehicle. Honda is starting to market the new fuel cell a little bit. Honda has just released the FCX Clarity for Japan.
One of the few weaknesses for this fuel cell vehicle is its limited availability in the United States. Southern California and Japan are the only two areas where this new vehicle is available. Honda plans to release around 200 vehicles in 3 years in California and Japan. Honda believes that this new fuel cell vehicle will be able to be mass produced by 2018. I think this is one Hondas biggest downfall is the limited release and so few refueling stations.
This car is a little small it's only able to carry four people. The cost of the FCX Clarity is about 600 a month on a 3 year lease. It seems a little steep for someone who is middle class to afford that payment. Not anyone is California will be able to lease this new vehicle. These people who are selected live near the refueling stations and they make a limited amount of commutes.
Basically Toyota and GM vehicles are Hondas biggest threat. With so many new hybrids and small gas efficient cars, this creates a problem for Honda. Another threat is Chevrolet. Chevrolet has developed a fuel cell SUV "the Equinox" and it has already arrived at New York City, Washington D.C. and Southern California. With this being said, it becomes a race between Honda and Chevrolet with the new fuel cell technology. How would the new fuel cell FCX Clarity size up in popularity? The lack of mass production and refueling stations, Honda won't have a chance.
I think Honda has come up with a good concept car with its new fuel source. The new fuel source needs to be researched further before they should market this vehicle. This car is for people who are willing to go green and have the money to do it. The whole problem is making this car available to the public and easily accessible.
On the other hand Honda has a comparative advantage because of their home refueling station. There is no other vehicle out there that you can just plug in and refuel at home. Hybrid vehicles rely on battery and gas to run. You have to plug the hybrid in to recharge the battery.

A Car Bore's Guide To A Used Ford Mondeo

Go to any car dealership and you can be certain you'll come across a used Ford Mondeo - it is a fact as inevitable as the world being round or water being wet. Supplies of Ford cars are plentiful - used Ford especially so - with competitive pricing and popular styling just two features of a car company making arguably the best cars it ever has done.
There are two histories the used Ford Mondeo sitting on the forecourt could have in its logbook. The first history would reveal a mid-thirtysomething salesman with many motorway journeys under his belt (and many corporate lunches too no doubt). His suit jacket having been lovingly hung up in the back as it accompanied him on his travels and sales pitter patter. The second life the car could've had would be the all purpose, all conquering family pet. Muddy football boots, furniture from Ikea and mountains of glitter from a night out would all have come into contact with the Mondeo.
Whether the car comes with life history 1 or history 2, it doesn't matter. Either way the car would've faithfully carried out it's duties and has only appeared on the forecourt because either: a) salesman didn't sell enough and was sacked, b) salesman sold lots and was given a new Mondeo, c) family had another child and bought a people carrier. A good buy on all accounts then, but before you decide on which colour to go for, let me fill you in on the birth of the Mondeo and how it made Ford's accountants' life expectancies rise dramatically.
Replacing an institution is tough. Whether you're singing Freddie Mercury's parts for Queen, acting James Bond in the latest film, or playing rugby instead of an injured Johnny Wilkinson for England, you'll be more closely scrutinized than the original. And so was the case with the Mondeo. Entering the showrooms in 1993, the new car replaced the much-loved granddaddy, the Ford Sierra. Despite its global market, the European arm of Ford was haemorrhaging money and had developed the unenviable reputation of making cars the accountants wanted. This resulted in poorly built vehicles that were as interesting to look at as a Monet in a cardboard box.
Things started promisingly (not for the accountants mind) as the Mondeo shared very little in the way of parts or design with its appalling 90's predecessors the Escort and Orion - resulting in high development costs. Top pub quiz fact: it was the first car to have a drivers' airbag across the entire range. This forward thinking from Ford meant it topped many safety test standings and appealed to companies not wishing to give their staff death traps and of course families. Sales rocketed and it was named European Car of the Year in 1994.
One criticism was that the styling was still more cardboard box than Monet. A facelift in 1996 addressed this to such a degree, that only the doors and roof remained the same as the Mk I model. The corporate Ford oval was incorporated into the front grill giving the car a more curvy and playful look. Still no Monet but the palette was starting to take shape. The facelift was as well-received as Jackie Collins' and this helped boost sales further although the additional outlay from Ford did mean specification levels dropped, meaning wheel trims were back and alloy wheels were consigned to the optional extras order form.
Over the next four years, with Ford's European fortunes taking a drastic u-turn for the better and as the new space-edge Ka and Focus models were being launched, the Mondeo was suddenly in need of another shot of botox. As the new millennium dawned, so did the Mk III Mondeo - the car that more than likely stands before you at the used Ford dealership. Although it was in the same design club as the Ka and Focus, it wasn't considered part of the 'New Edge' Ford design and therefore sat in the corner of the club looking restrained. A more expensive, Volkswagen Passat inspired interior is the stand-out feature, which looks expensive because it is.
Combined with further safety enhancements including the excitingly titled 'Intelligent Protection System' (IPS) which was a system that basically decided for you which life-saving features to use in the event of a crash. It was the most popular large family car for its entire 2000 - 2007 life-cycle. It is too early to comment on the latest Mk IV model, although it did find its way into the latest Bond film 'Casino Royale' for a brief scene, before being swiftly replaced by Bond's orginal Aston Martin DB5 (what did I say about following an institution?)
To summaize, the Mondeo may be the most popular vehicle of its class and therefore buying one will result in you being as unique as a Manchester United supporter, but it has sold in it's droves for a mutlitude of good reasons. The choice as they say, is yours.

Run Your Car on Water Hoax - I Got Suckered In

The run your car on water hoax has convinced thousands of people that they can operate their motor vehicle by using water. Just use any search engine and you will find several ebooks on the market that will show you how to use this simple technology. Many of them claim it is their responsibility to share this information with the world. They say the only reason gas prices are so high is because of enormous greedy oil companies. I must say that everything they state on their websites is very convincing. I believed it all, read the water for gas kit ebook, and here is what I found out.
Once I read the run your car on water hoax, to say I was completely shocked is an understatement. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that is was not a scam at all but a legitimate answer to the extra one hundred dollars I was spending on gas each month. More importantly, I was glad to know that the $50 I had spent on the kit information had not gone to waste.
The run your car on water kit is a step by step guide that shows you how to convert your vehicle to use a combination of water and gasoline. Some people think that they will be able to completely stop using gas in their car, but this is not the case. The system that you will be installing into your automobile simply uses the hydrogen, found in water, as a supplement to the gas your vehicle is already using. Most people have heard of using hydrogen as fuel in cars. In fact, there are hydrogen cars that are being built right now by major manufacturers. They are not very popular, but they do exist.
Another concern I had about this run your car on water hoax is being able to install the kit into my car. I know very little about the mechanical workings of an automobile. My auto knowledge basically consists of open the door, sit in the seat, key into the ignition, put in drive, gas pedal means go, and brake pedal means stop. Needless to say, I was very intimidated at the thought of messing with parts under the hood of my vehicle. Fortunately, the authors of the manual have provided easy to read and understand instructions in the manual. The directions are laid out perfectly for a mechanical novice with diagrams to illustrate.
The last question I asked myself was, "how can the run your car on water hoax be a scam if your purchase comes with a money back guarantee?" A true scam artist is only after your money. He does not offer a guarantee with your purchase. He takes your money and runs! I felt secure in knowing that if I was not completely satisfied then I get my money back, no questions asked.
After reading the so called run your car on water hoax, I was comforted to know that there are affordable options to rising gas prices.

Ford - The Most Responsible Car in UK

Around the world a new competition has introduced specifically in automobile market that based on environmental cars or green cars.
Ford Motor Company, which has already proved as a trusted vehicle company of peoples again proved their performance that they are still uncompetitive in autos market specially in environmental point of view.
In a survey named "Companies that Count" actually organized by Business in the Community (BitC) of Britain Ford Motor Company remains the most responsible corporate citizen among automotive firms in Britain, The blue oval scored 100 per cent in two of the survey's sections – environmental and marketplace management. Related questions in BitC's detailed audit asked how Ford set out its green targets, how it communicated them to employees and externally, and how it monitored the achievement of those targets.Ford was commended for being the first motor company to publish annual sustainability reports, according to BitC's published results for this year's "Companies that Count". The latest sustainability report sets out the companies global vision of offering excellent products and services while respecting and preserving the environment.
Ford offers one of the broadest low-CO2 vehicle ranges and continues to research a wide range of environmentally-friendly vehicle technologies. These include next generation petrol and diesel engines; alternative fuel vehicles, such as bio ethanol /petrol fuel motoring (where Ford is European market leader); electric hybrid applications; and hydrogen internal combustion and fuel cells.
The other highest performance area for Ford in the survey, marketplace management, probed its activities across the board from product development to component sourcing, marketing, sales and service.
Results confirmed that Ford considered the impacts that arose from its products during development, use and disposal. There are supplier recognition awards run by the blue oval to highlight best practice on sustainability among trading partners. Ford's global terms and conditions require suppliers to prove themselves as ethically-run organizations, respecting the human rights of employees and their own trading partners.
BitC represents over 700 companies, including Ford, that are working to improve the way that business affects society. In the fifth annual "Companies that Count" survey Ford was awarded an overall score of 86.5 per cent.
Andy Taylor, Ford's European corporate citizenship director, said: "Ford is very aware of the impact it has both as Britain best selling car and commercial vehicle manufacturer and as a major employer with well-established UK research and manufacturing sites. This success as a 'Company that Counts' in Britain confirms Ford's commitment to act responsibly." It really includes the new dimension of Fords proud history when Ford is little struggling in sales market.

Fixing Scratches With Paint Sticks

For car enthusiast and non car enthusiasts alike, it is very frustrating to go outside, view your car and discover that there is a scratch on it. Many people don’t have the funds to go out and get a brand-new paint job. Luckily, there are products on the market that can help individuals fix their car without resorting to getting it totally repainted.
One such way includes using a product called Paint Scratch or one that is similar to it. It allows you to touch up your car or truck where it has been scratched. You can use the original factory paint, if it is still available. Paint Scratch and like products, come in various forms. One form is a pen. You can simply write over the spot that has been scratched. There are also spray cans for bigger areas, as well as touch up bottles. You can buy up to one gallon of the stuff. It is fairly inexpensive and much less expensive than getting a new paint job. Individuals will find prices starting at just under $15. Paint in a can will cost you a little under $25. What is so great about these types of products is that you can get them mixed so that it perfectly matches your car. Therefore, if have a customized paint job, you can have that paint color reproduced so that it matches perfectly with your car.
A lot of products like this and including this one can be purchased online. For individuals that are unsure of the process but are interested in fixing scratches, it is very simple. The first thing that an individual needs to do it is to select the year of their car, as well as the model and the make. After that, they'll be given a list of colors. If one see their color, than they simply need to choose it. If they do not, than you will need to fill out a special form. If there are several colors that look close to the color of your car or if you’re simply not sure what color your car is, you may want to check your car or truck’s color code. Once you have that you can plug that into the order form and the correct color will pop up.
If you have no idea where to find your color code, its’ location will differ based on the make of your vehicle. For example, on Acura’s and Hondas, the color plate is usually near the driver’s door jam. If you have a BMW, it's typically underneath the hood, close to strut towers. If you have Ford, it should be on the driver’s door jamb, and it should say exterior thing color, which makes it very easy to find. In Hyundai’s, color codes are also typically found on the driver's door jamb. This holds true for the Nissan as well. For Mazda’s, if you have any newer model, it's probably in the drivers door jam as well. But if you have an older model, it may be underneath the trunk or the hood.
Purchasing and using touch up paint is a great way to take care of unsightly scratches. It's a great alternative to paying for one's car to be totally repainted. Today, even individuals with custom painted cars will be able to have a certain color of paint created so that they can repair any scratches. It is very affordable and starts as low as a $15, and it can be purchased in quantities of up to one gallon.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Combines the Comfort of an SUV With the Performance of a Sports Car

If you crave the incredible speed and high performance agility of a sports car, but need a little more leg room or towing capacity, look no further than the luxurious Jeep Grand Cherokee. Originally introduced in 1993, Jeep’s flag-ship sports utility vehicle (SUV) has evolved throughout the past fifteen years to become a refined, powerful, and sleek machine. It is capable of going 0 MPH to 60 MPH in less than five seconds while still providing a superior on- and off-road experience, important for those true Jeep aficionados!
Initially developed as a spin-off of the smaller Jeep Cherokee, the Jeep Grand Cherokee quickly created a name for itself with its spacious interior, comfortable ride, natural-feeling steering, luxury materials, safety features, legendary Jeep off-road capability, and on-demand acceleration. Its secret to a comfortable ride, while still allowing for great speed and off-road performance, lays in the stiff unibody chassis coupled with an advanced four-wheel drive system. Built upon a stiff car-like chassis, the Grand Cherokee is lighter than if it had been built on a truck-style body-on-frame design. Advantages to the car-chassis base include less weight for better fuel economy, easier entry and exit, safety, and better on-road handling.
Even with the improvement in on-road handling, one of Jeep Grand Cherokee’s top capabilities is off-road performance. Owners can choose from one of five engine types, including a diesel engine, and one of three four-wheel-drive systems. Instead of independent suspensions, the Grand Cherokee utilizes Jeep’s Quadra-Coil suspension combined with four links and coiled springs. “Consumer Guide” ranks it as a class leader when it comes to off-road capabilities, even though the Grand Cherokee also provides a comfortable ride for long-distance on-the-pavement travel.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee ranks five stars for federal government crash tests in addition to incredible acceleration, maneuverability through urban settings, roomy interior, stylish design, and off-road capabilities. Standard accident avoidance features include electronic stability, four-wheel traction control, front and side-curtain airbags, roll-over sensors, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring system, enhanced accident response system, and SmartBeam headlamps that adjust the brightness of the high beam based on oncoming traffic. Other options include a ParkView rear back-up camera, ParkSense rear back-up system, High Intensity Discharge headlights, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist.
Safety ratings, roomy interiors, towing ability, off-road handling, and enhanced two-wheel or four-wheel drive capabilities are great features of the Grand Cherokee that cannot be touched by a sports car or competing SUVs in its class. Even while noting the differences, the similarities between the two vehicles are striking. Like many sports cars, the Grand Cherokee can move from 0 MPH to 60 MPH in less than five seconds. It feels secure and precise when traveling around high-speed curves, the steering feels natural, and stiff suspension underpinnings reduce the body roll while delivering a confident ride. A tight turning radius is an added improvement from the original models, making the Grand Cherokee nimble when parking in a lot or crawling the over trails. Smooth transmission shifts, strong braking ability, and powerful engine options provide the Jeep Grand Cherokee a raw feeling of power. In spite of this, luxury and capability are not an issue, as the Grand Cherokee has been found equal to or better than the Porsche Cayenne or Land Rover LR2 in independent studies. In comparing the reliability and price of the vehicles to the Grand Cherokee, both fall short of being reliable and stand too high in price. The Grand Cherokee also withstood a side-by-side comparison to the Audi R8 and was found to be capable of giving the R8 a run for its money.
In addition to handling performance, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has many luxury features that are found in many sports cars. The Grand Cherokee boasts options such as heated front seats, remote stereo controls on the steering wheel, driver’s side memory system for two different drivers, auto-dimming rear-view and side mirrors, quality carper, soft leather trims, and powerful stereos. The body style evolved from a hard edge style to a softer rounded look while retaining the chiseled strength of the original version. Interior space has been described as the size of an indoor hockey rink, while providing bins and pockets throughout for plenty of storage space. The interior remains refined, even with the large space and areas for storage. SIRIUS backseat TVs and MyGig entertainment systems are a few of the electronic upgrades available for the Grand Cherokee, allowing children to be fully occupied during long trips. The SIRIUS TVs boast first-ever-in-vehicle streaming video technology, offered exclusively by Chrysler. With luxuries like these, the Grand Cherokee creates a pleasant atmosphere for your family as you drive to your destination.
There are many great features that would inspire someone to purchase a Jeep Grand Cherokee instead of a sports car. With the traditional speed and handsome body style of a sports car in conjunction to the off-roading capability of a Jeep, and the roominess of an SUV, the Grand Cherokee delivers.

Looking in Depth at Hybrid Autos

Hybrid automotive is a vehicle, which uses a dual engine power automotive technology to run. This is an old technology. For instance, the technology was used in older diesel electric submarines. The idea behind hybrid automobile is the usage of two power sources to increase overall efficiency.
Now, there may be a question in your mind that why use dual-power sources in a vehicle. The answer to this is very simple. Researchers thought that common people might not meet the expense of gasoline in future. Excessive usage of gasoline in recent century is an alarming trend for increased CO2 emission. Hybrid automobiles intended to provide a cheap journey to passengers at an affordable price.
Working of Hybrid Automotive:
A hybrid automobile mainly uses gasoline and electric power to function. There are few diesel electric vehicles too, which are running on this technology. A hybrid makes use of electric power only when the engine requires power. For instance, when a hybrid vehicle reaches a speed of 30-40 mph, it uses electric energy.
Almost every automobile makes use of a conventional small lightweight engine. It provides the required speed to the vehicle. When the car needs acceleration, electric source may add some extra power to attain that speed.
Generally, these vehicles can touch a speed of 75 miles per hour similar to the speed of V8 (supercar). However, V8 has a greater acceleration power, so why waste fuel on a V8 car, when such hybrid cars can give you the same performance.
Types of Hybrid Automotive:
There are two types of gasoline hybrid automobiles. First is the Series hybrid vehicle and the second is the Parallel hybrid Vehicle. Series hybrid use gasoline engines to activate a generator, which powers an electric motor or charge the batteries. Next, parallel hybrid vehicle combines two sources of power to generate more or average power with better mileage.
Hybrid automobiles deliver good performance, even though they have small engines. The main reason for such a credible performance apart from the small engine is the use of lightweight materials used in the creation of these vehicles. The lightweight materials used in hybrid vehicles are low-rolling resistance tires, advanced aerodynamics and carbon fiber components.
Due to these lightweight materials, there is less load on the vehicle. A hybrid automobile automatically turns off the gasoline engine, when the vehicle is not in use. For instance, when the vehicle halts at a traffic signal, it automatically turns off the engine.
Some hybrid vehicles have regenerative braking system. By using a regenerative braking system, the vehicle may lower the speed by decreasing some amount of power. The generator thus, uses the decreased power to generate electric energy.
The cost of such hybrid automotive ranges from $23,000 to $54,000. Even hybrid SUVs are available in the market. Thus, the demands of such hybrid vehicles are increasing profusely.
Recently, the technology has successfully developed plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), which are rechargeable with the help of power grid eliminating the need of conventional fuel (gas) for short tours.

Escort Cosworth – The Greatest Used Ford Ever?

My email inbox has been inundated recently. Whether it’s been American pharmaceutical companies offering out-of-the-blue, to increase the size of certain areas of my body (how’d they know?) or one man pretending to be a large banking corporation so he can steal all my money to buy a new anorak, invariably my mail is useless drivel.
There was a highlight this week however with the announcement of the new Ford Focus RS. I was treated to some exclusive pictures of the eagerly anticipated model and can confirm my jaw had to be prised off the floor after half an hour. Once again, Ford has gone with a garish colour scheme like the orange-clad ST, this time breaking out a pot of lime green paint. Despite this slight eye-jerker, you can expect the used Ford market to be inundated with the Focus ST, as the RS promises to be exceptional.
In-keeping with Renault’s F1 inspired Clio, the RS features a rear diffuser, bonnet air vents and more bulges than a queue outside a donut sale. From every angle the RS looks menacing yet functional, a point confirmed by the car’s interior. Hardcore Recaro racing seats adorn the cabin, going hand in hand with the usual Ford refinements such as air-conditioning and satellite navigation – a perfect microcosm of the RS as a whole. Ford racing purists are getting sweatier palms by the second.
The excitement of the new Focus RS has evoked many nostalgic Ford fans to reminisce about the last truly earth-shattering hot Ford – the Escort Cosworth - arguably the greatest used Ford of them all. As with the latest Focus RS, Ford on occasion feel the need to break free from their production line of commuter mobiles and build a mad car.
Many see the Escort Cosworth as Ford’s crowning glory and an example of sheer brutality that has never been bettered. The standard Escort at that time was an prime exhibit of the Ford motor company of old, as it was quite simply a bit rubbish. The idea of buying a used Ford in the early nineties meant a heap of reliability trouble, a bucket-load of rust and a particularly clinical drive once you got it working.
Despite this uninspiring platform, Ford had faith that it could rescue the Escort brand. Having already manufactured the Sierra Cosworth, the 500 and Sapphire 4x4 to great acclaim from petrol heads and with the Sierra making way for the new Mondeo, the Escort was the only model yet to be fitted with rockets under the bonnet. On paper the prospect didn’t look too tantalising: the old Sierra undersides mated to a modified Escort body spelled disaster. Yet it proved to be a match made in heaven and despite its rough foundations, the Escort Cosworth was a hit.
Stylistically it was instantly recognisable, not because of the familiar Escort shape - the identical headlights or rear end, but for the gigantic rear wing that seemingly defied gravity as it protruded horizontally for ten miles from the rear windscreen. Clearly this was a boy’s car for grown men to fall in love with. The rear wing actually increased drag so much it took 12mph off the car’s top speed, which was not an inconsiderable 138mph. The upside of this, in addition to making the car an instant icon, was that the Escort Cosworth was the first production car to produce negative lift, as the car was being constantly pressed to the road as if by a giant hand from above.
It gave the car’s owners a big dilemma – the faster you went the better the car handled as it was pushed into the ground, yet the slower you went the more people could stop and stare at the car. Large wheels and huge wheel arches gave the whole car the air of a rallying stallion, with the air vents on the bonnet giving the engine a much needed source of oxygen. All this pomp and circumstance did have one drawback – everyone wanted one. Therefore keeping your Cossie safe required your insurance company to place it into their top insurance bracket of 20 – the same as a Ferrari no less.
In many ways, despite the performance, styling and hefty insurance costs, it retained its identity of being an Escort, whilst shedding the many poor aspects of the base model it was built on. Because the heart of the Cosworth was just a working class Escort, it became an everyday car with an everyman price tag – it just happened to have 227bhp and the ability to out-manoeuvre a Porsche.

Leasing Vs Buying a Car

Getting a new car is always an exciting time – whether the car is bought outright or leased from the dealership. Many people believe that their car, much like their home, is an extension of the person they are or indicative of the person that they may become. A car is equivalent to your status in many people’s minds – although that is not quite true. There is much debate over whether it is better to end up leasing or buying a new car. Auto leasing is the preferred option for many people.
In contrast to buying a car, auto leasing requires very little or even no money, upfront in exchange for the vehicle. Additionally, leasing a car generally results in lower monthly payments, though you are not paying to own the car. When the lease ends, you do not have a car and will either need to replace it or go without. When you buy a car, once you have finished paying the bank notes, the car is still yours. This difference may be worth the extra money you pay each month in the long run.
Depending on your personal situation, both auto leasing and purchasing a car have advantages and disadvantages. When you lease a car, you can get a better car for less money and even drive a brand new car every few years. On the other hand, when you buy a car, you build equity in your credit and can have a car for years and years after it is paid off. Furthermore with auto leasing, there is none of the hassle associated with trading in your car at the end of the lease, which cannot be said for buying a car.
When you buy a car there is no mileage penalty at the end of each year. With a lease you must mind your mileage. Although the payments may be smaller through auto leasing, if you buy a car when the interest rates are low, it is just a better financial decision to make the purchase rather than to lease. Buying a car will leave you with more flexibility later – if you ever want to sell it, you can. You cannot sell a leased vehicle.
Not everyone should buy a car and not everyone should lease a car, it all depends on the type of person. Sometimes, it is difficult to tell the difference and identify what type of person you may be currently. If you like to buy a new car every few years, auto leasing may be for you. When you lease a car you can not only lower your payment and drive a nicer car, but you change vehicles more often than if you owned the car. If you are the type of person who drives long distances, enjoys having the same car for a very long time, and do not like to be forced into making decisions regarding cars every few years, you will definitely want to buy a car rather than lease one.

S2000 at Your Honda Dealer

I absolutely love driving. I think those four words probably sum me up best and there are very few occasions when that fact is ever in doubt. Unless a white van is involved I rarely get agitated with other road users. Speed humps are annoying but rather than get angry and drive over them at 100mph and slice my car in two, I’m happy to tip-toe over them. Having said this, there is one motoring phenomenon that seems to be ever growing that I quite simply cannot cope with – the traffic jam. Spending more and more of your time sitting in a pool of your own sweat frantically trying not to overuse the clutch as you edge forward at one mile and hour is not an enjoyable experience.
There was one occasion where I lost my mind completely and it’ll come as no surprise the city of London was involved. Having driven for six hours, I was now lost in a suburb somewhere that flirted with the congestion charge but managed to skirt around the five pound boundary. Brixton was my intended destination but even the road signs were shrugging their shoulders saying “dunno you silly Welshman”. The icing on the cake hit after nine hours – no I’m not exaggerating. Reaching a t-junction that turned onto a 70mph intersection the traffic lights weren’t working. I stopped as the lights were red – a stupid decision apparently as I was met with an audible squeal of tires behind me as a bunch of cockneys skidded inches away from me. After much horn pressing, swearing and seemingly no break in the 70mph traffic I did the only thing I could – closed my eyes, welded my foot to the floor and repented for my sins. Somehow I made it and when I got lost and ended up at the same junction again it seemed far easier the second time over.
Imagine my surprise then when I spoke to a friend who’d recently been to Japan which was already gridlocked 15 years ago. Amazingly the roads nowadays are near-clear at all times of the day. The reason being that unless you own a parking space you can only buy a car with an engine no larger than 660cc and shorter than 11ft 2in long – hence very few avoid one or the other stipulation as modern cars are constantly growing in size from their predecessors.
If the Japanese can’t make the most of their motoring products, I implore you to not miss the boat. A trip to your Honda dealer will have you greeted by plenty of metal, all of which is over 11ft 2inches and doesn’t matter one bit. After all, there are only 58 models on the market that fall into Japan’s stringent categorising system, the Suzuki Wagon R being the best selling with 250,000 per year being shifted. The problem is that to maximise interior space, exterior styling has to be compromised or abandoned altogether. Therefore there are no tapered windscreens, long bonnets or spacious boots, just vehicular creations that look like washing machines.
Your Honda dealer however can offer you the S2000 which is small but also has style in abundance, 240bhp and a soft top to catch the couple of day’s sun we have every few years. Oh and it’s a bone fide sports car. First appearing in 1999, the S2000 has remained largely unchanged which is testament to its subtle styling than appeals to everyone, whether it’s the gaping front grill for the aggressive styling purist or the cheeky rear to curvy enthusiasts.
To start the engine, a large red button greets you, helpfully saying ‘engine start’ to avoid confusion. I can’t think of a better way to signal the racing potential of the S2000. In typical Honda fashion, the VTEC engine revs all the way to 9,000rpm and with 240bhp wrung from just 2.0 litres of naturally aspirated engine, you can even get 30 miles to the gallon if you drive carefully.
Given the car’s handling though, you’d be a fool not to give it a good run through the countryside, top down on a sunny Sunday afternoon. For a measure of how good the handling is, nip into any racing circuit open to the public and I guarantee there’ll be an S2000 or two being gleefully flung around.
The boring stuff such as boot space and servicing are also favourable, making the S2000 a very practical everyday car that when unleashed will leave you grinning like a loon for days. If you find yourself taking a wrong turn in London never fear, you won’t sweat all over your leather upholstery either – the S2000 has air conditioning as standard.

How to Succeed in a Weekly Car Auction in Atlanta

The existence of the weekly car auction in Atlanta is due to the rapid urbanization growth in the state over the last twenty years. The state of Atlanta, Georgia is now the most populated metropolitan area in the US, and is dynamically becoming a worldwide hub for economy. The state swiftly shifts from a regional commercial status to an international economical influence. With a 20.5% demographic increase between the years 2000 and 2005, demand for automobiles and other personal vehicles have also surged. People had to find less expensive ways to purchase vehicles and, fortunately, they found it through the weekly car auction in Atlanta.
Since these auctions in Atlanta are happening every week, a current trend now in buying automobiles tells, "if you want to buy it cheap, you would better be at the weekly car auction in Atlanta". Despite the frequency of such bargain deals, however, it is sad to note that not everyone is receiving their benefits. It is either someone had chosen the wrong auto, or that someone had not carefully considered his bidding amount. To help you succeed in getting a good bargain, you are advised to consider seized auto auctions.
Seized car auctions are just one of the many types of auto auctions in Atlanta. The best thing about repossessed vehicles is that they are on display at amazingly low price biddings. Because of their frequency, you may find dozens of websites that offer exclusive "look-ins" to these seized vehicles. With a nominal fee, these websites can allow you to preview the details of each automobile before the actual auctioning begins. This gives you the chance to carefully review and consider your options.
A typical weekly car auction in Atlanta is a closed auction, which means that only certain dealers have the permission to participate. If you have connections with these dealers, you might have high chances of getting a sneak peak at these vehicles. Getting a first hand look on auctioned cars is important. Just bear in mind that not all closed auctions offer good deals.
When you are finally in this event, remember to stick to your maximum bid. Never let your emotions control you and never allow the heat of the bidding push you to drop a price beyond your limit. If you do this, only the auctioneer will benefit. Keep in mind the choice of a seized auto auction. In this case, you would need to do research before the event happens.
In summary, a weekly car auction in Atlanta can be successful if you are wise and smart in your decision-making, in terms of choosing the best car deals.
Make new discoveries and learn more handy tips about public car auctions such as where to find such auctions near your home and how to get great bargains for your car deals.

Buy A Used Engine, Not A New Car!

oday, people everyday are purchasing either a new or used car to replace an older one that may have had previous problems with the engine. Buying a used engine is a great alternative to getting into a new car note but it can be risky business if you don't know what to look for. One of the things that makes it so risky is the fact that there is no legal requirement to maintain the engine to any standard, or to keep any kind of accurate log.
So the first thing to look for some kind of service record on the engine or a Car-Fax statement showing the mileage as listed by the DMV. If it's not there, the engine might not be what you think you are getting. I see at least one engine every month that was bought used and was misrepresented as being much fresher than what it actually was. Nearly every such case, the buyer was told that the engine had just been "rebuilt", or that it has only been "broken in." In actuality the engine had over 100K miles and had been sitting in the rain for 2 years rusted up solid."Rebuilt" is a relative term, and should not be relied on as an indication of quality unless there is a detailed service record describing exactly what was done with the engine and when it was done. The service records that get sent back with one of my rebuilds is usually about 2 - 3 pages single spaced, and every little detail of the engine service is in there. Without that kind of records, "rebuilt" could mean new seals and gaskets, or it could mean new crank, pistons, bearings, seals, and gaskets. That is a big difference.
Just be sure to find out if paperwork comes with a rebuilt engine and find out who did the rebuild and see if that is a reputable company.
Something else to consider when buying a used or rebuilt engine:
The age in years of the engine: If the engine is 10 years old make sure you don't get a quote as if it had 20,000 miles on it as this is highly unlikely. Consider the number of years old x 12K miles per year. Also, find out how long its been sitting, compression tests if possible and a car-fax certification on the VIN. If the engine has not been ran in a while be sure to ask them to start before sending it. Even on an engine that is ran, if it's not ran a few miles per year, there is too much down time and pistons can lock up etc.
Additionally do a check up of the company you are buying from. I'm not suggesting going on a witch hunt to see if they have every had a complaint but maybe check the Better Business Bureau to see if they have a satisfactory record. This just means that though they get complaints (what business doesn't) they handle them according to BBB standards which, by the way, are fairly stringent. You just can't go around selling junk engines and get away with it for long.
Overall buying a used engine is definitely the way to go before you replace your car unless the cost of the engine is more than the value of the car if sold. That is where I suggest you to purchase something new.

How to Save on Gas: 3 Fool-Proof Ways to Cut Fuel Costs

Every now and then, flipping through the newspapers or surfing television channels will remind you of the escalating fuel costs today. You cannot help but notice that such costs are actually going to have an impact on the way you lead your life, and may become one of the largest financial burdens you will have to deal with each month. This is why you need to know how to save on gas, and the 3 fool proof ways to cut fuel costs today. Doing so will help to alleviate the burden you face and enable you to use those savings for other purposes instead.
Method 1: Run your car on water.
The advancement of technology has enabled us to use water, combined with petrol to run our cars today. This relies on the process of converting water to Brown gas, and eventually burning Hydrogen to produce energy for the car. Using affordable materials that can be found at the local hardware store, anyone with little or no mechanical expertise will be able to install the conversion system into the car with ease. As such, making a small investment in this new system will go a long way to helping you accumulate large cash savings each month. Additionally, you will not have to fork out extravagant sums to pay for the increase in fuel costs! Running your vehicle on water therefore will be able to help you save on gas efficiently.
Method 2: Control your speed
Living in this fast paced society has made it necessary for things and even people to move very quickly. As such, most drivers alike tend to speed on the roads whenever they see an opportunity to. However, other than risking the lives of pedestrians and other users of the road, speeding can also cause your fuel to be used up more rapidly. Speeding and burning your fuel is therefore analogous to giving away your hard earned cash to gas stations for nothing. Thus, it is important to control the speed of your vehicle, and reduce the speed at which you drive whenever possible. Doing so will help you save on gas fuel, and enable you to use the existing tank of gas for longer periods.
Method 3: Avoid leaving your engine running when not in use.
Whenever possible, avoid leaving the engine of your vehicle running idle when not in use. This is because doing so will similarly consume more fuel than you actually need when in motion. As such, avoid taking steps like switching on your car to warm the engine up, or keeping it running just so that you can enjoy a little bit more of air conditioning. So, bear in mind what to avoid to enable yourself to save more on gas.
In conclusion, dealing with the high oil prices can actually be made more manageable if you are willing to put in effort and use the appropriate methods to save on gas. Thus, by using these 3 fool proof ways, you will be able to save on gas and make large savings in the years to come.

Run a Car on Water - HHO Fuel Cell For Cars

Hybrid Hydrogen Oxygen (HHO) gas can be used in your car to improve combustion. HHO gas comes from water and the idea behind it is to avoid burning up the unused fuels in the catalytic converter. The main advantages of using HHO gas are saving thousands of dollars per year, mileage increases and your car's engine will last long.
The HHO gas draws more power which helps provides you with more MPG. What the HHO does is it breaks down carbon in your car's engine and gets rid of it. This way you can preserve your engine for a longer time and it vastly increases efficiency of fuel. To efficiently utilize HHO cell all you need is an HHO that has 12 v at 1 amp. The alternator has plenty of capacity to produce that tiny amount needed and with that amount it provides you with a lot of benefits.
The fact is, HHO gets hot but do not worry you can control the heat. Control the head through the amount of catalyst which is the baking soda or with Pulse Width Modulator (PWM). During cold weather you might encounter some problems because you are using water as your fuel. But still you can remedy it by adding denatured alcohol (20%) to the fuel cell. Both of the catalyst can help with the HHO's production.
Other useful tips:
Check for the water level after every three hours. Water level decreases when the car starts because HHO is burned. The problem regarding this set up is that it has more room for warm HHO. Just follow this tip to make sure that you preserve your engine for a longer time. You will only cost a few bucks and in return you reap whole lot of benefits.

Cars Do Not Effectively Protect Against Whiplash

Whiplash claims are one of the most common injuries featuring insurance claims made by insurance companies' costumers, and this may largely be due to the fact that many cars on the market are not adequately built to protect passengers and prevent whiplash injury.
Most customers are however unaware of this as research on the matter is very limited, greatly due to the recent nature of the knowledge of the fact that whiplash is caused often and badly prevented -in the current situation. City cars are the least effective in preventing whiplash injuries in low-speed rear-end shunts. That's the stark warning from Thatcham, the insurance industry's research centre, as it published its new head restraint ratings.
The report explains that drivers are being short-changed on safety, with the front seats of 11 small cars failing miserably to impress testers. Not one was rated as Good, which is described as 'offering good protection for most sizes of occupant'. And only two were Acceptable, while the vast majority were Marginal. The Fiat Panda and Ford Ka were graded as Poor, which means they 'offer little protection from whiplash'.
Thatcham's crash research manager, Matthew Avery, said: "City cars are not equipped to protect their occupants' necks when they have to absorb the crash energy from larger, heavier vehicles. Combined with poor seat design, this makes whiplash far more likely."
Avery then added that a good seat design shouldn't be linked to the cost of the car, and while 75 per cent of all seats tested achieved a Good or Acceptable rating, more needed to be done in the city car sector. This category is growing in size as more motorists choose to drive 'greener', cheaper-to-run models which tend to also have better anti-whiplash prevention and protection. The newer modules learn from the past's faulty ones, explaining why they offer better built vehicles for today's consumers.
Meanwhile, Thatcham has given its seal of approval to premium manufacturers Audi, Saab and Volvo for achieving a Good rating on every vehicle in their ranges.
Whiplash injuries cost the insurance industry millions of pounds annually, according to the Association of British Insurers. The Association also reported that there were 432,000 claims alone in the last financial year, with the average amount paid out to motorists coming in at £3,500 - a whopping £1.5billion claim bill in total.
Thatcham has published complete results of its whiplash tests online. Log on to the website thatcham.org to find out how well your car's front seats performed and consider upgrading to a safer model as it may very well be worth your while -and money. If you opt out from a vehicle upgrade, a cheaper solution on offer could be to get health insurance which covers against whiplash claims. This type of cover would be less pricey than a new car but just as worth it.
Most health insurances cover against whiplash but some do so better than others. If you decide to shop for different health insurance than your current choice, keep certain things in mind. Firstly, ensure they cover you against whiplash specifically. Secondly, have a look at what their requirements are. Does the accident need to be another driver's fault for you to make your claim? Remember car insurance does not usually cover against whiplash - you need separate health insurance to protect yourself against these risks.
If you are suffering from whiplash, make an appointment to see your GP immediately. You need certified proof from a qualified doctor that you are in actual fact suffering from whiplash, but the doctor is unlikely to sign anything unless he has witnessed the symptoms himself. Whiplash is often short-lived, so go to A&E if necessary.

Used Ford Ka Vs Bugatti Veyron - And The Winner Is?

Aren't dreams great? Just this week, I've scored a hat-trick for Manchester United on my debut, married Holly Willoughby and played guitar with Metallica to 100,000 people. I'd be willing to bet that something amazing has happened to you this week too, (obviously not Holly, you bigamist) - we all love dreaming. I must admit however that as I reach the peak of my REM each night, the last thing I dream of is a used Ford Ka. I've fallen off pavements lots and buildings for that matter, but I've never found myself with both hands behind the wheel of a blue ovalled used Ford Ka.
With Ford priding themselves on making affordable, yet well-built, reliable cars, our car-loving sub-consciousness heads to 0-60 in 0.000005 second land. You see, owning a Ford isn't dream material, you can actually have one yourself and it's precisely because of that, we all wish we had something different. To put it another way, your boyfriend or girlfriend may be decent looking and nice company, but Johnny Depp or Cameron Diaz and their like would lead you astray in two seconds. It's the attraction of wanting something you can't have that is so appealing. Tell you what though, after Cameron's been in bathroom for 3 hours putting on layer ten of her make-up, you'll wish you had your old partner back to cook your dinner. In short, don't desire what you can't have, make sure you choose wisely what you can. The end...except I should probably tell you why I think the Ford Ka is (arguably!) better than the Bugatti Veyron I left Holly washing at Old Trafford.
The Ka I drove was, in short fabulous. Despite the design being 12 years old, it still looks very funky, hence the large influx of young females that carry them around in their handbags. The model I drove was a 2004 registration 'style' - one up from the bottom of the range and with body-coloured bumpers to distinguish this hierarchal advantage. Inside, my six foot and a bit frame had no trouble fitting in and my legs remained comfortably below my waist, rather than around my ears as first feared.
The dashboard was well laid out and the driving position was versatile enough to cope with my lanky arms. The highlight though, was Ford's pandering to my neon light fetish, with beautiful green light bathing the white speedometer dials. I was also pleasantly surprised with the engine the car had tucked away in front of me. All Ka's come with a nippy 1.3 litre engine and when you combine this with the car's diminutive proportions, 0-60 is achieved in 0.000005 seconds.
On my travels, I encountered all the obstacles and pitfalls you'd expect to find when driving around town: roundabouts, road-works and Reliant Robins. The Ka swiftly dealt with these with well-weighted steering and decent grip from it's titchy 13 inch wheels. Considering the Ka is essentially a bubble on these little wheels, the lack of body roll was arguably the car's most impressive achievement as I slipped in and out of boy racer mode. Boot space is atrocious mind. A quick stop at the corner shop will have your passenger holding the milk and groceries, as there is no room in the boot for a flea. Also the gearbox is a tad clunky on occasion, but these are minor issues in what is a truly superb car, that is head and shoulders above the competition. Besides, if you wanted a car with boot space, you'd buy a Volvo estate - or a hearse - if they are mutually exclusive.
The reason I drove a used Ford Ka rather than a sparkly new one is simple. If Ford are selling their cars so cheaply, then the build quality must suffer as a result too. By driving a four year old version, I wanted to see if the joints were creaking and a hip operation was required. As the above road test clarifies, Ford seem to have cracked the impossible - the ability to cheaply build a reliable car, that is fun to drive. The Ka can comfortably compete against the other rivals in it's class and stacks up very favourably - that's why they are so popular with so many people - owning a good, reasonable car is not the stuff of dreams.
So next time you are lusting after what you can't have remember this: you can have 333 of these fun cars for the price of my Bugatti and for that you get a cool little car that is so light on your wallet, you needn't dream of owning one. The boot is larger than the Bugatti's too.

Helpful Ideas From a Ford Diesel Truck Owner

I have a 94 Ford Diesel truck and in the last 14 years, I have added a coupe and a sedan to the family line up of cars. Previously, I had not thought twice about keeping the old truck around, but lately the cost of fuel has me thinking about what to do with my truck. I thought about selling it, but saw the price new and old trucks are garnering and decided to look elsewhere for some ways to get more out of my old truck.
1. Offer in town moving services: Craigslist and other online classified services are chopped full of people selling furniture, mechanical equipment and other heavy items that are not easy to transport. What's missing on CL is an abundance of people offering moving services to get items from point A to point B. This is particularly true in major cities where there is good transit and many people don't have cars like NYC and San Francisco. So take a moment post an ad, wake up a few hours early next weekend and make some money and help a few people out.
2. Rent it out: Every once and again people need a truck to move things and you might not have the time to help, but what you do have is a hearty ford diesel truck (any truck will do, but you see where my loyalty lies) and for a few extra dollars a month, you can change your insurance coverage to include business use. As most car/truck rental locations will charge $100+ per day and another arm and a leg for insurance, now is your chance to undercut them and make some money.
3. Short distance car hauls: So this one might not be for everyone, but if you like to do some traveling and can spare an extra day of vacation every month, why not take a few road trips next year. With major auto shipping carriers charging upwards of $500 for short hauls from Vegas to Phoenix, Phoenix to Los Angeles etc. now is time to jump in and tow someone's car. A simple hitch and a few extra dollars on insurance and you are set.
These are just a few basic ideas to think about making money using your truck on the weekends. For the most part, there might be some cash outlays involved in getting some of these ideas rolling, but if your truck is paid off and in good working condition, you can make some pretty easy money without sacrificing much more than your free time. If you have suggestions or other ideas on how to get the most out of your truck, please drop me a line.

Ford Fusion and Fiesta Sales

The Ford Fiesta and the Ford Fusion has been refreshened for the automobile market. And now, this has assisted greatly in keeping the sales and the numbers up. So far, the Ford Focus has remained the best selling vehicle for the Ford of Europe. In fact, for this year, it has already sold some 157,000 units already and yet the year has not yet ended. On the other hand, the Ford Fiesta is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, 2006. Closely following suit is success for it has experienced an increase of some five percent in sales. Last April alone, it sold some 27,100 units.
The first four months of 2006 proved to be quite a prediction for the months ahead for Ford in Europe. You see, during this first quarter, Ford in Europe experienced selling 131,00 Ford Fiestas which is actually a nine percent rise in sales compared to the same period for last year. If you put the Ford Fusion’s sales along with the Ford Fiesta’s, the total sales went up to 162,800 units which actually equates to a nine percent increase.
According to Stephen Odell, the vice president of marketing, sales, and service of Ford of Europe, “As market leader in the UK, Ford sales feel the affect of slower demand in that region more than others. We are fully confident that we will retain overall market leadership for the year in the UK, without resorting to pursuing unprofitable business. Elsewhere, we continue to have tremendous success in emerging markets, which we expect to continue to grow strongly in the future.”
At Ford Parts Online, quality Ford starters and Ford alternators are in stock right at your fingertips, along with parts for many other Ford vehicles, makes, and models.

Car Radio Installation - Ford KA Fascia

The Ford KA fascia's are somewhat awkward to fit, this is what you do. To ensure a solid fit you have to use the included black plastic clip that comes with the fascia, this runs along the runner inside of the radio aperture. This is the equivalent of the original Ford clip that is built onto the rear of the Ford radio. The radio will not fit right if you don't use this.
First of all, mount the radio cage inside of the fascia, but do not install it in the radio aperture yet. Now on the back of the radio, attach the black clip mentioned above using a self tapper screw (actually screwed into the back of the radio where the hole is provided) Leave the black clip somewhat loose. If it is too long, use washers to pack it out.
Now, slide the radio half way into the cage and then straighten the black clip ready for it to mount on the runner in the radio aperture. Compare this clip to the clip on the Ford radio to get an idea of it's position. Tighten the screw/clip but not too much. This is important so that when installing the radio it can manoeuver on the runner to fit correctly. This screw will not come loose.
Next, attach the wiring to the rear of the radio and locate the clip onto the runner inside the radio aperture. You can use some installation tape to hold the aerial in position on the rear of the radio. Run this from the top to bottom of the radio, covering the aerial connector.
To finish off, push the fascia into position flush with the dash, then slide the radio into position and lock it into the cage.
Now test the radio for correct operation.
Do yourself a favor. Go to this site: car-audio-products-and-accessories.com and read the installation articles. They cover much on car audio installation. They will help you do a better job of your car audio installation.
However, if you choose to use the pros, go here for a professional installer if you're in the UK.

Retro Vehicles: Is Volkswagen Next?

Retro styled vehicles are all the rage today and Volkswagen’s New Beetle was one of the first of many of these types of cars to show up on the market. Given VW’s long running popularity, other long since retired models are certainly worthy of being copied, don’t you agree? The Karmann Ghia, the Thing, and the Scirocco are a few that come to mind, however they aren’t the ones slated for a comeback. Yes, VW’s famous “Bus” or Microbus is scheduled to return, to the delight of aging hippies everywhere.
Okay, first a quick test. Can you name some of the recent retro vehicles to hit North American highways lately? Besides the Volkswagen’s New Beetle, here are a few:
Ford: Thunderbird, Mustang
Chrysler: PT Cruiser
Chevrolet: SSR and HHR
To qualify as a true “retro” vehicle it cannot just borrow the name – like the Dodge Charger – instead, it must take its styling cues from a vehicle from another generation.
Enter the Volkswagen Microbus.
Yes, open up your cedar trunk and take out those wild looking tie dyed shirts, your cavernous bell bottom pants, and that pair of odd looking leather sandals. Let down your hair [if you have any left], grow a beard [gents only, please] and be prepared to step back in time to the days when the VW Bus was the people hauler of the day. Peace, love, and stop the war you say? If VW has its way then around 2008 a vehicle very similar in style to the Bus will once again be seen cruising the streets of Haight-Ashbury, Greenwich Village, and every freaky place you can think of, man! Just, groovy.
Featured at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show, a concept Microbus evoked all sorts of “ooohs and aaaahs” from visitors; it was this same type of reaction that has convinced Volkswagen to go forward with production.
As of this writing, there is a battle raging within Volkswagen-land as to how much the Microbus will incorporate the retro look. Seeing how the New Beetle succeeded in the US, but flopped in Europe will VW have the courage to stand tall and bring back the hippie hauler? Or, will VW cave in and produce just another run-of-the-mill vehicle that only hints at its past glory?
Time will tell, but my advice to VW is this: get it built now before us hippie dippy types are too old to climb into it.
Unless, of course, the Microbus can be outfitted with a wheelchair ramp.

How to Buy a Used Budget Jeep - Engine & Drivetrain Choices

First thing you need to decide is the intended use of your Jeep. With today's gas prices every bit counts. If you're looking for a little freedom drive and small commutes in town, the 4cyl engine will do you fine. If you travel frequently on the highway or interstate definitely need the 6cyl. Either engine will do fine off-road with the gearing provided by the transfercase. If you are looking for a project budget Jeep for off-roading that will get a new engine then you still have the engine to consider as it will affect your bottom line; 4cyl engine Jeeps are cheaper.
Since this is about Wrangler or YJ Jeeps we won't touch the others at this time. In 1991 Jeep introduced the fuel injected 4cyl engine. It pushes out 123hp and 139ft/lbs of torque. Transmission and transfercase with this engine is the AX5 and NP231. The AX5 is a lightweight transmission and when you test drive you will want to verify smooth shifting from 2nd the 3rd gear as they are known for bad sychro's (aka grinding will occur). The NP231 is a chain driven transmission and will stand up to any abuse you will throw at it with the 4cyl and has a respectable 2.71:1 reduction for off-roading. If you're looking for a town putter, easier on gas, able off-roading and open air driving to the beach this is for you. Best thing about these engines is the price, but if you want an auto they will be gutless and hard to find.
Also in 1991 Jeep had the 6cyl as an option or standard depending on the model. The 6cyl Jeep engine put out 185hp and 220ft/lbs torque. These engines came with the medium duty AX5 transmission and the same NP231 transfercase. A bit harder on gas and pocket book, this engine is what most look for as it has the guts on the highway/interstate. They also come plenty in automatic and standard transmissions. A good catch in the 6cyl model is the heavy duty Dana44 rear axle that you can stumble upon in Jeeps that came with towing package. These rear axles can handle more abuse then the stock Dana35.
Unfortunately Jeep Wranglers did not come from factory with a V8 so if you come across one for sale take a good look at the engine harness and ask lots of questions. Last thing you want to do is inherit someone else's problems. We will go deeper on this in another article.
So you have a lot of choices. Best to be educated and know what you are looking at so you can make an informed decision. The buying decision will be totally different between someone looking for a cruiser or and offroading project. As they say: "Your mileage may vary"

Performance Tune is the highest level, more often referred to as the "race", "top horsepower", "fast", "extreme" setting. You would put it on this setting to reach the highest horsepower level, and as you may have guessed, No... you should not expect better fuel efficiency in this setting. It is also not recommended to leave this setting on for long periods of time. Also there should be NO TOWING on this setting. You will want to bring it back down to a normal setting to increase your fuel economy, and have smaller hp gains.
Tow Performance is the medium level. This program is recommended for towing applications. Please note that this program does not in any way raise the vehicle manufacturer specified tow limit of the vehicle. This Performance Tow program provides an increase of 51.3 rear wheel horsepower and 110 lbs. ft. of torque.Towing should be restricted to about 6000lb.
Transmission Only optimizes your transmission performance.- With this program only the TCM is reprogrammed by the Flashpaq. This program will improve shift firmness and shift points to enhance vehicle performance. Quicker, firmer upshifts and downshifts will be achieved and will enhance both 0-60 and 1/4 mile track times.
Stock- This is the original file created by the vehicle manufacturer. The user has the option at any time to completely restore the vehicle ECM and TCM to the original stock status. The ECM/TCM operating systems are not permanently modified in any way.
This programmer is designed help the overall drivability of your Superduty, while increasing your fuel economy.
How it Works: The Flashpaq programmer connects to the OBD2 port of the vehicle through the attached OBD2 cable. The Flashpaq downloads and stores the stock engine and transmission file to the device memory. The user then answers questions to select desired options and chooses one of three tuning programs offered by Superchips. Once the program is chosen by the user the Superchips files are uploaded (programmed) to the engine control module and the transmission control module to optimize vehicle performance including the options chosen by the user.
The Superchips Flashpaq programmer is the only tuning device on the market of its kind that can program both the transmission control module (TCM) and the engine control module (ECM). This capability allows Superchips to ensure that transmission settings are optimized to function properly with the changes to fueling through the engine control module (ECM) and therefore improve overall drivability.
**You can usually expect approximately 1 to 2 miles per gallon increase while in lower stages. TheProgrammerStore nor Superchips guarantee any increase in fuel efficiency. It varies depending on driving habits and conditions.

Volkswagen to Re-launch Phaeton in North America

In the year 2002 when Volkswagen Phaeton was introduced in the world it was considered a breakthrough for the brand since it was the first time for the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer to build such a large, sophisticated, and expensive vehicle. The Volkswagen Phaeton has become a blessing and a curse for the automaker. The Phaeton proved to be what the automaker hoped it would be----the ‘Best’--- but amidst its perfection it has somewhat brought a dark cloud over Volkswagen because instead of bringing in more sales for VW it has slowed down sales until the time came for the automaker to decide to stop the sales of the Phaeton for North America at the end of 2005.
But it looks like things are finally turning around for the Phaeton as according to media reports Volkswagen will again try for the second time around its luck in North America by sending its Phaeton back but this time making it even more luxurious. Will Europe’s largest automaker succeed this time is not yet clear.
In an interview with the financial news provider, Bloomberg, Andreas Meurer, Volkswagen’s of America’s spokesperson said that the company has intentions of reintroducing the Phaeton to the US market. Furthermore, the Financial Times Deutschland reports that in an interview with VW’s CEO Dr. Martin Winterkorn, he said that in order for the car to be successful it needs to be introduced worldwide. The Bloomberg article did mention that the Phaeton vehicle will not be a new modified Phaeton but the previous model introduced and stated further that the vehicle is expected to arrive before the turn of the decade.
The launching and sale of the Phaeton is just a small part of the whole Volkswagen equation and in fairness to the automaker it has been successful with its move upscale. Take for instance the Touareg which was a surprising hit for the automaker, the Passat was also a best seller for VW and carries the image of being more than just an average midsize car. To give Volkswagen with the edge in the high-end luxury market, it will have to try to differentiate itself from its rivals. The Phaeton on its own is a fantastic luxury sedan and demonstrates just what the Volkswagen brand is capable of.
Volkswagen has been very successful with its fusion of qualities, design, capabilities, and performance. It was even able to mate a fastback or wagon with a TDI powered engine and go further by creating a combination of diesel and hybrid drivetrain. If the automaker can do the same for its Phaeton then it would be able to differentiate itself from the other luxury vehicle out there since it would be gaining the attention and interest that it needs due to its unique traits.
With regards to the new Phaeton four-door model, Volkswagen has launched the brand new 2008 model at the Geneva Motor Show bears a mild facelift that includes an adaptive xenon headlamps, with LED daytime running lights plus some new LED tail lamps and a restyled front grille that will surely put it more attuned to the rest of the Volkswagen lineup. And speaking of being in line with the rest of VW, the Phaeton will have the same quality VW auto parts such as the popular VW control arm which upgrades the suspension system of any VW vehicles. Different VW model calls for specific VW control arms and Volkswagen makes sure that every component that it adds on its vehicles have undergone strict quality test. This is the automaker’s way of maintaining quality in its range.

Choosing the Right Jeep Tires

When choosing what jeep tires you want to run on your rig, there are several factors you need to look at, such as tread pateren, tire size and of course, what type of driving you will be doing with your jeep.
If you are among the few jeep owners who rarly if ever take your jeep off-road, then there are only two factors you need to look at.
If you live in an area that receives little or no snow, then your basic radial jeep tires will do just fine.
If you live in an area that receives moderit to heavy snow fall, or you plan on driving in the mountians in the winter, then you would want to go with a more agresive mud and snow tire for your rig.
If you are among the majority of jeep owners and love taking your jeep off-road, then you need to look at more aggressive jeep tires.
You have a wide selection of off-road jeep tires to choose from including the more aggressive style of the mud and snow tire, the very popular mud trrain, and one of the most popluar off-road jeep tires, the supper swamper.
In the end, it is you, the jeep owner who will know which type of jeep tires will be best suted for your jeep.

Jeep Radiator Flush

If you are an older of an older Jeep you probably know already that they need a good amount of maintenance. One of the maintenance items commonly missed is draining and replacing the coolant in the radiator but it is very important. A clean radiator will keep your vehicle running cool and smoothly for many years and help you avoid the many problems that overheating can cause. Read on as I discuss flushing a Jeep radiator.
The first step is to let your vehicle cool down completely. It is dangerous to work on a hot, pressurized cooling system. After the Jeep has cooled down you will drain the radiator by placing a large container under the radiator petcock. Twist the plastic tab to open it being careful not to damage the tab. After you have drained the radiator you can drain the coolant from the block by placing your drain pan under the drain plug on the drivers side rear portion of the engine block. Take the used coolant and place it in a sealed container and put it out of the way of children and pets. After you finish working on your jeep be sure to take it to a safe place to properly dispose of the used fluid according to local regulations. Now replace the engine drain plug and tighten the petcock. Add a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water. Distilled water is important because it will not have coolant passage clogging minerals in it. Leaving the radiator cap off of the Jeep start it and allow it to reach operating temperature. As it does so the radiator water level will drop as the system bleeds the air out. Once you are done, turn off the vehicle and put the radiator cap back on. Once it has cooled you can top off the overflow reservoir and you are done.
As you can see, there is not much to this. Any backyard mechanic can change the coolant of their vehicle. Just be sure to take your time, be careful and dispose of used fluid safely. Remember antifreeze is toxic to children and pets so be careful.

Jeep Wrangler Suspension Lift vs Body Lift

There are essentially two ways to lift your 1987-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ: suspension lift or body lift. Each has its pros and cons in terms of price, performance, and ease of installation, but let's first distinguish between the two.
A suspension lift raises the vehicle's frame (chassis) away from the axles by replacing the springs with taller (or more arched) springs. A body lift raises the vehicle by lifting the body away from the frame with spacers. This keeps the frame at its existing distance from the ground. A suspension lift is recommended for anyone planning to use their vehicle off-road while a body lift is recommended for anyone that wants to make their vehicle look lifted with no true intentions of going off-road. This doesn't mean that a body lifted vehicle can't go off-road. It just won't perform as well as a suspension lifted vehicle because it hasn't gained any ground clearance. Suspension lifts for the Jeep Wrangler YJ typically range between 2-inches to 4-inches (though there are some companies that produce "extreme" kits in excess of this), while body lifts range between 1-inch to 3-inches.
A suspension lift is more complicated than a body lift because it alters all of the suspension components that give the vehicle its factory ride characteristics. Taller leaf springs are typically stiffer than factory leaf springs so the vehicle will have a harsher ride quality than with soft factory springs. Longer shock absorbers will be needed. The vehicle will also have a higher center of gravity because the entire weight of the vehicle (everything except the axles) will now be raised further from the ground. In some cases, the transfer case will need to be lowered and the rear differential repositioned to minimize driveline vibrations as the Jeep Wrangler is notorious for having a short rear driveline that isn't readily accepting to increased u-joint angles.
Pros: Increases ground clearance, increased approach and departure angles, allows fitment of larger tires.
Cons: Expensive, longer installation time, drive line angles are increased (more susceptible to vibrations), brake lines need to be re-routed or lengthened, new shocks needed, increased center of gravity.
A body lift is relatively simple in that it primarily consists of a set of spacers that are inserted at the mounting points between the frame and body of the vehicle. This leaves all the heavy parts of the vehicle (frame, engine, transmission, transfer case, etc) at their factory locations so the vehicle's center of gravity (though increased) will not be increased as much as a suspension lift.
Pros: Cheap, can be installed quickly with basic hand tools, allows fitment of larger tires, simple (all components come in a small box).
Cons: Appearance (there will be a noticeable gap between the body tub and the frame), extra leverage is placed on the mounting points, no increase in ground clearance.
Ultimately, a body lift provides no benefits other than allowing the installation of larger tires whereas a suspension lift is designed for improved performance off-road (while also allowing the installation of larger tires). If you're on a budget and want to make your Jeep Wrangler look like a big off-road rig with no real intentions of ever going off-road, then a body lift would be adequate for you. However, if cost isn't a factor and you're looking to make your Wrangler more off-road capable and trail ready, then a suspension lift is the only way to go.
If you're looking for a suspension lift or body lift for your 1987-95 Jeep Wrangler, WranglerYJ.com sells Jeep Wrangler suspension lifts, Jeep Wrangler body lifts, and thousands of other new and used Jeep Wrangler parts with an ever-changing inventory of items.
